There is a lot of effort that goes on before a greyhound can be placed in their new home. From the initial planning stages of bringing the dogs from the race track kennels to the intake center to the foster home and finally to your home, it takes countless hours of work behind the scenes. The dogs journey may begin at the race track kennel but the real adventure starts at the intake center where volunteers make initial contact, going over the dogs to make sure they are healthy, wash them, worm them, clip their nails, evaluating their personalities, making sure they are cat safe and of course, give them their first contact of real love and attention. Please enjoy the photos taken at a recent arrival in March of 1999. These dogs came in from Florida. Included in the shipment was a special needs dog that had to literally be peeled out of the truck because she was so shy. This dog can be seen on our Success Story because she truly is a success..she now does Meet and Greets.

What a greyt way to feel welcome with a kiss before getting washed.

Getting checked over can be fun! You might even get a tummy rub out of it!

Where did we all come from?   Waiting for your turn isn't too bad if you have a friend!

A little bit higher and to the left if you please!!   Have patience!! Your turn is coming!

So this is what I waited for...a wet stream of water, squishy white stuff all over me and someone rubbing a blue thing everywhere!!   Of course, this bath thing isn't too bad especially if it is a hot day!

Being shy has it's advantages..I get lots of attention!

SUCCESS STORIES

We will be including success stories from our adoptees as we get them in so please feel free to contact the webmaster with your submissions and stories and photographs.

Meet Santa Fe April

"Fe" was a Special Needs dog who came to NJ Gap from Florida in March, 1999. She was very shy and nervous and thin. Today she has gained about 8 lbs. and now is doing Meet & Greets. She lives with Nan and Tom and two very lucky children in Milford, NJ and is doing wonderfully.

MEET JAKE

Jake was recently adopted to Susan & John who live in Readington. NJ Jake had a small problem with antisocial behavior toward other dogs and has even started obedience school. Susan & John absolutely love him and he does them. He is also fantastic with the young nieces and nephews. Jake was adopted at 7 years of age and is one of our special needs dogs. Jake is now doing occasional Meet and Greets at Fin, Fur and Feathers in Flemington, NJ and is a great spokesdog for the greyhounds.
